Stoopid, stoopid

I had Sean call Sasktel for me today to figure out my internet problem. When I do a speed test my upload rate sucks, and I think it's affecting all of my downloads and even streaming video.

Tonight, for instance, I was trying to do the Test the Nation special on CBC and the streaming video on the test froze up. It's a pretty long test and of COURSE I was almost finished.

Sasktel better fix this problem soon, I tell you. I'm paying good money for this internet stuff and I can't even get the most out of it. What really makes me mad is that I've called Sasktel twice to see if they could do anything and they've brushed me off, saying that the speed test is coming up fine so that's just as good as I'll get it. Sean calls today and he's on the phone 5 times longer than I am, doing all of these extra tests and being promised that they'll look into it in the next few days. I can't believe sexism still happens, but I really believe that's what happened here.

(No offense Lacy, I know you work for them, but I have many issues with them.)

If there was something I could do, I would TOTALLY do it, except I'm in outbound calls, not inbound. If you give me your phone #, I can call repair to see if they have a ticket out for your repairs. lacy_s128@hotmail.com let me know

So, this has nothing to do with the blog you wrote, just something that I want to say and every time I try to email you it comes back to me saying it can't be sent. Anyway... Sean is an incredible writer! Most of his blog entries I don't understand because they are about politics and I have no grasp at all on those issues, but every once in awhile he writes about something that I can wrap my head around and it is amazing! I just wanted to say that! And have you read that book about Climate Change that he talked about in one of his blogs? Sounds interesting to me...

Lacy: Aww, thanks! I'll definitely send you an email.

Celine: I know he's an incredible writer. He's an incredibly smart guy. :) I'm actually about halfway through the book (I've totally blanked on the name of the book, it'll come to me later) - I read a chapter a night and it's very well-written. I'm not scientifically-inclined but the writer really explains things in a way that the layperson can understand. I recommend that you read it for sure. I'll probably post some thoughts on it when I read the whole thing. Argh, why can't I think of the title?!

The upload is going to be a lot slower than the download. Say you're on Basic Highspeed [or classic in the city, I don't remember what it's called]. Anyway the download speed should be 1.5Mbps tops [actually less due to bandwidth overhead]. That means maybe 170kBps if you're lucky. And if the site you're contacting is very busy, then it's going to be much slower than that. The upload speed is 256kbps if memory serves me. That means you're lucky to get 25kBps upload.
